ATFL Dysfunction

Anterior Talo Fibular Ligament (ATFL) sprain/strain.

When the ATFL is disrupted it has an inhibitory effect on the peronei muscles. This leads to a lack of peak in the torque curve of the evertors giving a flat mid portion. The effect is seen first in the eccentric results then at it's worst in the concentric results.

Achilles Tendinitis or Tendinosis

The concentric results often show a peak and then a rapid drop followed by recovery. This is because the tendon is placed under different stresses compared to the leverage through the ankle. The mid range (plantar grade) is most commonly affected as this demonstrates the highest lever disadvantage.
